Official Plan Amendments
An Official Plan Amendment (OPA) is an application process through which policies and/or land use designations in an Official Plan are changed. OPA's can be applicable to a single property, or they may apply to an entire area, Township or County.
Approval Authority
The County of Peterborough has been given the authority from the Province to process and approve amendments to both the County Official Plan, and local Township Official Plans. However, before a decision on an OPA is made, it must first be given careful consideration by Council, staff and public agencies. A review by these groups is necessary to ensure the goals and objectives of the Official Plan are being upheld.
Application Process
Before submitting an application for an Official Plan Amendment, the Planning Department prefers to meet with the applicant to explain the process, costs involved and any supporting studies that might be required.
A copy of the application for an Official Plan Amendment to the County Official Plan can be found in the "Documents & Resources" section at the bottom of the page
If you want to amend a local Township Official Plan, please contact your local Township for the application form.
Cost
Please see the fee schedule below for current application fees for Official Plan Amendments. The application fee is dependent on whether the application is an amendment to a local Township Official Plan, or an amendment to the County Official Plan.
You can expect other costs not listed in the fee schedule for supporting studies, public agency review, surveying, legal agreements, peer review and other supporting materials.
