Third Quarter 2010
It has certainly been a busy few months as Warden, and I find it a real honour to represent our County at everything from ribbon cuttings, anniversary celebrations, service club presentations and ratepayer meetings. I even had the job of walking a mile in a pair of red, high heel shoes for the YWCA’s Women’s Shelter fundraising event.I do my best to offer a positive and light hearted approach, despite the occasional feeling of being heavy-footed while wearing red heels.
In my travels it has become more and more evident that we must look at things on a regional basis. The airport expansion, the enhancement to rail service or the extension of the 407 all have a profound and lasting impact on the entire region. These kinds of improvements are critical to our growth and job creation initiatives. By working together, our representatives from all levels of government will be doing their jobs for all the right reasons.
One of the most exciting things to take place in Peterborough County, and indeed all of Eastern Ontario, is the proposed Broadband Network. This project, in partnership with the federal and provincial governments, has the potential of providing high speed internet service to everyone, not just those in large urban areas. I am looking forward to providing you with more details on this project in the near future!
On behalf of all of us on County Council and our dedicated staff, may I wish you a relaxing and safe summer.
Sincerely,
J. Murray Jones
Warden
